Captured in 2023, during the first snowfall of the season, this photograph shows one of those small Chicago moments that says everything about this city. The snow was coming down fast, the streets were already coated, and still these two people were laughing, talking, and genuinely enjoying the weather. That joy against the cold is what made me press the shutter.
I wanted the scene to feel honest: the snow piling on the stairs, the umbrellas collecting flakes, the skyline fading into the storm behind them. Chicago looks completely different in the snow, softer but still full of character, and the happiness in this moment balances the harshness of the day.
